Designed to help people learn more about the Web, including terminology, finding information, and creating effective websites that sell.

Description:
This class is designed to help people learn more about the Web, including terminology, finding information, and creating effective websites that sell. Students will learn how to deal with customer concerns and the best way to provide support. They will learn how to deal with and avoid viruses. Along with creating websites, students will learn about traffic reports and what they will mean to them as Webmasters.

The most important principle regarding the Internet is how to use it to your greatest benefit. So much has been said about it, but the one thing that every student will realize in time is that the Internet is a continually evolving medium. Something new is invented almost daily to make the Internet easier to use.

Our certification program will cover this most important principle and will go a step beyond. The knowledge gained by the end of the certification program will make you an asset to any company.

Who should participate in this program:

* Those who need a basic understanding of the Internet, including sales, administration, customer support, entry level, general office, tech support, etc.

Instructional materials and other support:

Although no textbook will be used, instructional and test materials will be regularly emailed to you. Chat will be available through ICQ, IM, or AOL.

Recommendations:

Those students who successfully complete this program will be encouraged to enroll in the Advanced Level Certifications program. The advanced level program will delve further into knowledge about the Internet, including measuring and verifying a broad knowledge of the subject and e-commerce as it relates to business. This will make a much more powerful statement in a language that potential employers and human resource personnel understand and recognize.

Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, students will know:

A. What the Internet is and how to use it properly.
B. How to adjust their browser settings to get the greatest benefit.
C. What to do if encountered with a virus.
D. How to handle a customer who has technical or other support issues.
E. How to design a site that will sell, and how to view and interpret log sheets.

Assessment:

1. The student will be quizzed after each section, with a final test at the end of the week. To get his or her certificate, the student needs to attain a 75% or higher grade average on all quizzes and the final test.

Week 1 :
Week #1 - Learning About the Internet, What it is, and How to Use It
We will define the terminology used for the Web. We will discuss how to use search engines and newsgroups to find information. We will discuss what makes a site sell. Identifying and recognizing key players and competitors in your industry is important, therefore this will be touched on. How do you identify your target or "niche" market? How do you handle customer and technical support issues? What do you do if you or your customer get a virus? When dealing with websites, how do you read or interpret log sheets? And, of course, what can you do to enhance your browser to make your access to the Internet easier?

During this week, after each section is covered, a quiz will be administered. At the end of the week, a final test will be issued. Also during the week, students will be able to put into practice certain principles, like adjusting the browser for better performance, etc.
